How can I make an effective concert poster using paint and powerpoint?

I'm starting an open mic night in a good sized college town and need to make fliers for it that are good enough to get their attention but won't really cost me much. Does anyone know where to find good art or templates for making good fliers?

Colorset24's suggestion to use Word is right. There are a lot of great templates available on the Microsoft website, here is the link: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/CT101439301033.aspx?stt=1

They have a ton of styles to choose from so make sure you go through them all. Here are two of my favorites:
